First of all, check the BIOS and tools section here, on Asus you need XP-capable Bios like 0031 or 0040 for Hero to make it work - then download the guide, check the section which explains XP installation and read it. It works, I use M8H and installed xp on 0031 and 0040 easily

Try this powerfull tool:

http://www.komku.org/2013/07/winsetupfromusb-simplest-way-to-install-windows-xp-from-usb-flash-drive.html

I have problem: to make my USB Pendrive windows XP bootable with optimised settings and SP3 integrated. It works.

I don't know the structure of your motherboard, but if you don't use external USB controller, installation should end succesfully.

You can also integrate any drivers to devices by some methods. One is "F6" just after installation begin. (probably only controllers). Integrated drivers in Nlite is another method.

I had a big fight with my notebook. I have even destroyed BIOS content and had to reflash it which means desoldering BIOS chip. Destroyed my optical drive (because cheap DVD does'nt have z-axis laser lens moving ability, it was just glued on "proper" height and while cleaning lens I destroyed it and had to use USB... this is where my problems began)

before Google found "komku.org" I used lots of programs but none of them worked or had strange behaviour.

You can integrate for example AHCI driver to use SATA more commands and optimise PC performance. Nlite will help if BSoD during installation process.

good luck

thats true, winsetupfromusb is probably the best tool. Saved my life more than once. :D

Thing with xp is that there aren't official Intel USB drivers for xp. :/

Don't think it will work on Skylake unfortunately, the issue is XP has no way of seeing USB devices even during install. The workaround we use loads the XP iso to RAM and adds a driver during F6 phase to emulate a CD drive.

yeah, cache OS to RAM. Only way is having a PCI-e usb controller with Windows XP Support

You don't need nothing special on SOC Force. Just the following bios

https://www.dropbox.com/s/of0kx0m7jm8qhpz/Z170XSOCForce.rar?dl=0

only those 2 ports for XP.

You can boot images from Z97 or X99. No need to build a new OS.

Any chance UD5 works the same? I'll try when I get a chance but if you already know, please share! :celebration:

Confirmed, flashed bios, plugged drive into correct sata ports, booted my xp no issues at all.

Just got my maximus extreme

is it possible to make an option in the bios for the asmedia sata ports for IDE, it makes installing xp so easy.

Also if I slipstream the ahci driver you guys posted should I be able to install from optical drive. it seems like it doesnt work during install but after install I can switch to the intel ahci ports. Does that sound right?

Sorry for all the questions but does the ps/2 port work with a splitter. Last night I could only get either the mouse or keyboard but not both at same time.

Either way thanks for amazing motherboard, I made an install with ahci driver before I got rid of my oc formula so I should be able to make an image and always use that.

But I'm have trouble with ps/2 splitter. Should a pcie usb 2.0 card work good?

PS/2 splitter wouldn't work, but USB keyboard/mouse works fine in XP. All other USB devices are a no go, and I don't see a fix coming any time soon. Very hard to justify spending resources on XP, we're just glad that we have it working at all.

Honestly have not tried installing from CD drive, but it should work as long as the setup can see the device (AHCI drivers). Any issue using the USB drive method specified in our OC guide? http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=142991 It's a lot faster as well :)
