A fake SuperPi application has been spotted in the wild. It looks just like SuperPi, but can produce any result you want. Our mods have been instructed to look for submissions using this fake SuperPi. Anyone caught using it will be permanently banned.Big thanks to the one who has made this ...

Hmm....any screenshots with that? Any story about how you guys figured that out?

Guys....we really need to know more about this. I want to know the full story. How he did that app, and how it can be spotted. Spi is my favourite game, if this gets f**d up....To hell with o/c....I mean it...3D Marks are very nice...But Spi is the sweetest little benchmark ever.

Munstru, it's to early to pinpoint persons or declare theories... that's why I would like to ask the hwbot crew from not participating in discussions around this subject. We don't want to accuse people if they have nothing to do with it.

We know how to spot it, and we will ban people using it. I hope that suffices for now.

If it's not a secret maybe you can tell us how to spot it??

We'd rather not, if we point out the flaws, someone else might reprogram it without the flaws.

there are a few things the fake applications gets wrong, and a few visual clues, but nothing that can't be "fixed" by the cracker in the first place. We need SuperPi 1.6 to fix this issue or start looking for another Single Threaded benchmark :(

A sad day.
The validation being fixed would be a big help. But since that does not appear to be of any importance to those that have the ability to do so maybe it is time to start looking at a replacement.

It would be a shame to lose this popular and important bench. Rather than immediately calling to replace, I think more intense pressure, stressing the urgency to fix checksum validation would be appropriate.

The validator is been broke for more than a year....That means that is done by purpose not by accident, and that is a problem. SuperPi should not be replaced, but probably improved, with better anti cheat methods....

Kind of hard to be improved, when as you have rightly pointed out, the owner of the program can't even be bothered to fix the validation after all this time. I agree, Super_Pi should stay. But at the same time a benching program should have continual upkeep and this has not been the case.

Cheat score, even with working validation is easy too, especially 1M.

I requested at other forum super pi 1.6 a lot of time ago when in that forum someone accused 2 guys of cheating, no one cared

Anti-Cheat app by Foxtrot could be a solution not only for Super Pi but for every benchmark

so checksum was easy to broke :p well given time any cypher can be broken :P thats why banks site certificates have limited validity ;)

that is indeed a very good idea!
Have AntiCheat running + SuperPi XS 1.5; AC checks validity of the application:)

Of course sir ;)

although there might be someone who would complain about the fact of having the AC app running on background, in my humble opinion it should be a MUST, what should this affect a 0,5% decrease in performance? ok then all would have that lack so all would run equal :)

i think all OC communityt should be cooperating with Foxtrot to have his app released, hell, i would even donate for an app that could spot any cheat, it should be at least a 99% accurate app of course, that's why all OC community should be helping :)

THis sucks. But all we need is a new version with a new checksum algorithm, and some kind of online validation that WORKS.

I found a strange version of super pi. As i am a new benchmarker, i don't know if it's a fake or an old edition of super pi. I made a picture of visible difference between the 2 versions.

You can see it here: http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/9576/pidifference2lj4.jpg

It's the older version of superpi.
