View Full Version : hwbot: No twitter updates today? Blame the lack of world record attempts

That's kinds funny that you actually have the nerve to say that....
Blame should go to the new HWBot rev. 3.0
For example:
This world recod, http://hwbot.org/community/submission/934190_kingpin_3dmark_2003_4x_radeon_hd_5870_19752 9_marks, on LN2 received 17.5 points
while my submission http://hwbot.org/community/submission/943436_vasgto_3dmark_2006_geforce_8800_gts_512_mb_ 18949_marks which is buy your definition "effortless on air" received 19.2 points....
???
I'm gonna have to agree with you on this rev 3.0. Even though my scores went up with the new revision, I find this very confusing and absolutely bonkers that a lower single card score trumps multi-card WR boint wise.
I'm all for hwbot getting support through manufacturers, but why would they want to support something that in effect causes people to buy less hardware????

Aww did poor kingpin only get 17.5 points? :( What a shame.

I must say I laughed quite hard when I read this comment. It's wrong on so many levels.
Anyways, looks like I can't make jokes around here any more.

I got the joke, but a valid point was brought up in the second post.
How is that wrong on so many levels? What incentive do I have benching more than single card? That's where all the boints are. That or I'm seeing stuff when I am researching hw and boints. So if most are like me (only bench for hwbot), why would I bother benching/buying multiple cards when I get no boints awarded since my single card scores more points?
If I'm totally seeing things wrong, by all means please school me up, but don't tell me how hard you laughed and thats it. Quite rude IMHO. I feel that the old engine "pushed" people to buy more hardware/multiple vga's.
Here is what I see when looking at the WR's page.
3d01 WR: 3Dmark 2001 2x GPU rank: 1st out of thousands, good for 39.7 points for team total, but not personal total, as his 1x GPU submission earns more points.
3d03 WR: 3Dmark 2003 4x GPU rank: 1st out of 83, good for 15.5 points for team total, but not personal total, as his 2x GPU submission earns more points.
3d05 WR: 3Dmark 2005 3x GPU rank: 1st out of 227, good for 13.6 points for team total, but not personal total, as his 1x GPU submission earns more points.
3d06 WR: 3Dmark 2006 4x GPU rank: 1st out of 464, good for 16.8 points for team total, but not personal total, as his 2x GPU submission earns more points
Vantage: 3DMark Vantage - Performance 4x GPU rank: 1st out of 381, good for 18.2 points for team total, but not personal total, as his 1x GPU submission earns more points.
Call me stupid but the point distribution just doesn't make sense to me.
FYI, no world record attempts in 24h is almost a unicum since Rev3 was launched. Who follows the submissions lately knows that within the top-10 there's a lot of action going on. Not a lot of high scores IS IN FACT newsworthy, how weird it may seem.
Anyway, manufacturers who get involved with HWBOT do it to show the quality of their products and/or to promote their products to their target audience. None of the manufacturers who we talk with expect to see a dramatic increase in sales rates. Basically, they market their high-end segment, show that the high-end products are very high-quality, that their design works to sell low/middle-end products. Reference cards are nothing to brag with ... customised cards, now there's something you can brag with.
Furthermore, you seem to be confident that people buy less hardware. I'm not so sure if that's really the case. It takes less financial input to get near the top, agreed, but to be at the very top ... well, you still need those decent cards. Whereas you'd by 2X's, you can, however, buy (and test) 4 single gpu's now. More products sold.
I will not go deeper into all this ... a lot of sidenotes have to be made and more background information is needed to understand why I found it a bit funny.

Gotcha. I guess I overestimate the impact hwbot has on sales of highend hardware....
FWIW, there has been alot of action lately and very exciting to watch at that!! I won't deny that. I just find it funny to see so few boints given for overall WR runs. I never meant to discredit the "newsworthy" part of your post. Actually, I noticed the same thing since I can't go an hour without checking new submissions :D
No disrespect meant Massman. Thanks for clarifying.
By the way, there WR points 'fix' is coming in rev3.5 somewhere in March. So yes, we do know that some things are not right at the moment :)

Sweet! I haven't had time to keep up with all these rule changes lately. I just have enough time at work to check new submissions. :(
So back on topic..... I'm just wondering if the is the calm before the storm. The vesuvius part 2 :D
I'm pretty sure that's going to happen. I spotted Hipro post "nice" somewhere, which means bad things are going to happen quite soon.
