Default [WU] [HP&DB] Rebranded graphics cards

The AMD Fail Fix Initiative.

Objective: Make everyone's life easier by merging all renamed/rebranded cards into one and also improve the search. The main reason being that they are impossible to identify in the screenshot/GPUZ for sure and carry the exact same specifications (except for clocks) and device ID.

For example the Radeon HD 7970, Radeon HD 7970 GHz, Radeon HD 8970, Radeon R9 280X will be merged and fall under the name "Radeon HD 7970/8970/R9 280X".

When searching for the above graphics cards in the dropdown it will show the new category "Radeon HD 7970/8970/R9 280X".

I would also like to make search by Device ID possible, meaning that if you look for the Device ID (in this case "6798") in the search box you find (all) the corresponding graphics card (in this case the new category "Radeon HD 7970/8970/R9 280X").

Thoughts?

You want to combine HW points category for the whole family?

Well in fact if you want to do it with AMD, you should also aim some NVIDIA cards too, GTX 680 = GTX 770 and so on

Few nvidia cards will be affected as well (I have plenty of AMD examples but I can't find an obvious nvidia example right now).

As for your example, no the GTX 680 and GTX 770 wont be merged because they have different device IDs and can be identified in GPUZ. They are different enough.

I love the sounds of that as the whole rebrand thing with amd is a PITA as I had a comp sub moved into the wrong gpu because gpu-z showed it as such

How 'bout these?

nV G92 renamed stuff: 8800GTS 512, 9800GTX, GTX+ (same, only 55nm), GTS250?
GF108: GT430 128bit, GT530, 1 type of GT630?
These 2 cores come up in my mind first.

The problem is about device IDs - 8800gts512 and 9800gtx(+) and GTS250 all have individual device IDs, Nvidia did a better job on this than AMD. As Newlife stated above, AMD is simply failing on this which makes recogintion on GPUZ random, often dependant on driver, and you can´t judge what card was used, so cards are shown wrong and have to be moved for example now. It leads to problems at competitions and rankings, with various different drivers you might be able to bench one card of AMD for several categories, this is not a problem for NV with individual device ID and clean GPUZ recognition

I think it's the same deal as the GTX 770 example, they have different IDs so they can be in different categories.

FX5200 / FX5500 - changing dev id either with bios or riva works. Also, riva scripts may help making a lot of GF cards as quadro ones. 7600GS DDR3 = 7600GT. 7600 GT DDR2 = 7600 GS. I would then make a lot of merging for older GF categories as all of them may be affected by nvstrap driver.

Im sorry, but I already began on my own merging categorys, because it was almost impossible for the user to decide for the correct one. And everytime this happens it means lot of work for the mod team afterwards.

Some of these categorys are:
http://hwbot.org/hardware/videocard/...dr2_hd345070_/
http://hwbot.org/hardware/videocard/...ddr3_hd345070/
http://hwbot.org/hardware/videocard/..._series_rs690/
http://hwbot.org/hardware/videocard/..._series_rc410/

Lately I began to work with this: https://pci-ids.ucw.cz/read/PC/1002

As you can see there are a lot of ids like this:
6741 Whistler [Radeon HD 6630M/6650M/6750M/7670M/7690M]

5 cards share the same id! Great idea AMD!

We have to do something about this.

The user should have the possibility to enter the exact name of his card as also the driver string which GPU-Z is displaying.
Means in theory (for the example 7970 / 280X) that HD 7970, HD 7970 Ghz Edition, HD 8970, r9 280X as well as "280X and Radeon R9 280 / HD 7900 Series" can be entered and get linked to correct category.

I see lot of work ahead.
